Loop
2014
Oil on Canvas
120cm x 139cm ( triptych)
SOLD

This is the first artwork I produce since I left school and I honestly think it's the best painting of mine comparing to my school years work. :)

About the Artwork

Alice in Wonderland is a famous story. It has been adapted, retold and remade into movies and other kinds of production. The story starts as Alice jumps into the Rabbit hole and swirls through the mystical hole that is glorious and mysterious. The scenery in the mystical hole is interesting but what attracts me more is the moment when she decides to or not to jump. This is an important moment for Alice. I observe that the decision to jump is more significant than the consequence of such action as Alice reaches the wonderland. This observation helps to choose the topic of my work: “jumping”.
I used to draw comics before I went to Dasein. In comics, paneling and composition are some of the more important elements beside the plot of the story. In my current work, I used these elements to demonstrate a different perspective of “triptych” that is more interesting.

Artist statement

In my work, I focus on gesture and composition. During my final year in the college, as I search for materials to prepare for my portfolio, I discovered that fairy tales and classical stories attracted me most. These materials are the foundation for many of my ideas in my painting.

OctoberPost

Ok, it's really because I'm bad with giving off title, and lazy too.

My recent huge activity was Pulau Ketam International Art Festival and my first group exhibition, CATALYSIS.
------------------------------
Pulau Ketam International Art Festival 2014, I was one of the artist represent Malaysia. My mission:

to create an installation art based on the special features of Pulau Ketam
(fyi, it's a swamp island, not sandy island)

and

do 2 painting for charity purpose
(for donating to the school)

...but however because of lack of time, I only mange to finish the installation art and finish one painting.

海乡女孩
(The Girl who live by the Sea)
2014
Oil on Canvas
3 ft x 3 ft

I fell in love with this little girl at first sight, who was a daughter of a fisherman there. And very much wanted to paint her since then. Chases after her for 2 days to get the image that I'm looking for.
WAS to give 2 painting to school...however  I present this painting as a gift to their family who contribute a lot during the festival. :)

[but still I have to find some time and go back to finish the 2 painting that was promised 。。。囧]
--------------------

The Installation Art
My first attempt of Installation art in....exposed environment. Artists are given a thought of best presenting artwork that sync with the environment of Pulau Ketam (example: rising tide and ebb tide of the island).

Beside the impression of tides of the island, the island is quite dark during night time too. Street lights are not available in every place/ road. When I was flipping through a book about installation art , I came to a thought of " What if, there is something that could light up by itself without using electrical stuff?"

The answer to my question is

Fluorescent

After several discussion and blahblahblah...the artwork produced is this!

Fluorescent paint at a place called the couple bridge,情人桥
(谢谢阿村的超级大灯)

This is how it looks like during day time, white paint as based and unseen fluorescent as topping...
And how it sort of look like from the port

Because this artwork is bit of ' low profile'(低调=w=) and it's only super good to play with during night time, so not much people know of it. Anyway of course I'm here to promote it!

Just on your phone's torchlight and draw/ write with light on the bridge!

And,  my name

Is a bit lazy, will post about my first group exhibition next time ( Time for ice-cream!)

And some collage works which I quite took some interest starting this year ; )

The Last Serenity
Collage on paper,
size around A4.

=This work is created based on Oscar Wilde's short stories, " The Fisherman and his Soul". I like this story very much and I wanted to create a scenery where the Fisherman was hugging the dead mermaid, so here is it  :))

Hugged
Collage on Paper
A4 size
2014
=This work is created based on a Singapore writer's work, Cyril Wong. I think it was fate I came across his book "Let me tell you something about that night" at the price of RM5. I brought it immediately because I found his writing immensely inspiring and attractive. This Collage work is from one of the short stories, The Boy with the Flower That Grew Out Of His Ass.This is the scene where the boy with the flower and the boy with single wing hugging each other and sleeping on the bed.

AND....mini name card size Collage Works! :DD

...these mini joyful works is not part of the final works. BUT, they meant a lot and has became an important process for me to make my final works more perfect... I never show my lecturer until the assessment day. They were surprise I made these and comment that don't underestimate these "mini artworks". I was happy to hear that from them, because I'm a shy person...haha. I will continue making them when I felt like and hope to make a mini exhibition in some cafe someday^ ^

Cheers!!
